Dr. Cathy Kirkland, Ph.D.

Pastoral Counselor, Owner and Founder

Dr. Cathy Kirkland, Ph.D. is a Pastoral Counselor with a clinical emphasis through the National Christian Counseling Association in Sarasota, FL. Dr. Cathy is also a Certified Temperament Counselor. Cathy holds an ordination as a chaplain and as a pastoral counselor. She also earned her Master of Arts degree and completed her practicum experience at Trevecca Nazarene University. Cathy completed her Doctor of Philosophy in Christian Counseling with Honors in 2017. Dr. Kirkland is a Professional Clinical Member of the National Christian Counselors Association as well as a Certified Pastoral Member of the Sarasota Academy of Christian Counselors.

Dr. Cathy Kirkland is the founder of Beautifully Broken Counseling, "Bringing Beauty to the Broken Hearted." She and her husband, Dr. Todd Kirkland manage the practice as a family friendly and welcoming place for hurting people to find a place of acceptance and healing. Cathy's greatest joy is helping her clients know that boundaries are a good thing. Many people are in or were in family situations where boundaries were ignored or nonexistent. She helps clients name the offences, face them and then forgive them for ultimate healing. She uses a personally developed method of healing that you can only find at Beautifully Broken Counseling. It is called the Dilemma Book Method. She teaches this method on day one as it is effective for a more complete healing tool. She developed this method amid her own healing process to claim the name of victor instead of a victim. Cathy has the natural ability to draw out truth in others as she approaches others with genuine and compassionate caring. She wants those that come to her to know that there really can be Beauty after Brokenness. Dr. Cathy's heart is to help individuals and families be honest with each other and stop hiding behind secrets. She has several tools to help individuals deal with past trauma and walk away from the chains of connection to dysfunction.

Many of Dr. Cathy's patients experience complete and lasting healing but they will come in whenever new challenges arise. Cathy is happy to reconnect with her former clients as well as new friends. She has created a space that is truly welcoming and inviting. This helps clients relax quickly and start healing. Tissues are free and her clients feel comfortable to release pinned up emotions that many times come with tears. Cathy reports that her greatest joy is to have a new empty tissue box that needs a replacement. This is a sign that real healing is happening.

Cathy's clients offer the following recommendations for you to consider:

"Cathy is by far the most caring counselor I have met with. She always has great insight and has been very helpful in my journey of recovery. I'm blessed to have found her."

"So thankful for finding Beautifully Broken and Dr Cathy. Professional yet genuinely from the heart caring. Spiritually an eye-opening heart-warming environment and experience."

"We have been super pleased thus far."

Brian S.
Marriage and Relationship Counseling
"Very good listener, great faith-based advice."

Oliver P.
"I couldn't think of any one better to counsel me and my wife as we prepared to get married. Paul was encouraging and funny but at the same time helped us to see potential pit falls and particular problems that could come up for us in our relationship. 5 years later and I'm still thinking about some of our discussions with Paul. Our marriage is definitely stronger having gone through counseling with him. Highly Recommended!"

Matthew A.
"Paul is great with assessing the deeper problems that are in a person's heart. There is sin beneath the initial sin, and Paul is great at getting at the core of it and offering solutions that are attainable. Highly recommended!"

Kim P.
"Paul counseled my husband and I before we got married and we are so thankful! He listened well and helped us talk through our various issues. He also helped us develop tools for dealing with conflict that we have used thorough out our marriage of 5 years now! I would highly recommend Paul to anyone!"

Taylor B.
Premarital Counseling
"Talked to Paul on the phone and he's very personable and willing to work with you! Have our first session soon && will post another review then :)"

Seeing the positive results of this training, Cynthia became certified in Prepare/Enrich in order to provide this helpful service to other couples. She has been married to Jacob for eight years. After having a previous marriage that was extremely difficult, Cynthia understands how important it is to have a relationship built on love of God and love for each other.

Cynthia has received a full-tuition scholarship to Candler School of Theology at Emory University in Atlanta to pursue a Master's of Divinity in the fall. She has a Bachelor's in Music Education from Middle Tennessee State University, and performs in The Lionheart Orchestra in Murfreesboro and locally, with her husband. She believes we can see ourselves not only as survivors, but people who are able to thrive. She lives a life that shows we do not have to be prisoners to the bad experiences in our lives.

Cynthia will begin her counseling duties by offering a sliding scale option for our clients.

Growing up amidst the lush landscapes of Olympia, Washington, Phil's journey led him to Murfreesboro in 2021, where he initially joined Dave Ramsey's team at Ramsey Solutions. His role as a Relationship Manager allowed him to assist churches and families in breaking free from debt, aligning with his belief in financial stewardship guided by Christian principles.

However, Phil felt a divine nudge, a calling to walk alongside individuals and couples facing life's challenges, especially those feeling "beautifully broken." Following this calling, he transitioned from his role at Ramsey Solutions to become a Pastoral Counselor at Beautifully Broken Counseling. Here, he offers guidance steeped in a Christian worldview, aiming to bring healing and restoration to those in need.

Lauren Welsh

Commissioned Pastoral Counselor

Lauren Welsh is a compassionate and dedicated pastoral counselor at Beautifully Broken Counseling, driven by a desire to help those who are hurting find healing, hope, and a renewed sense of purpose. With a unique blend of personal life experience, deep love of learning, and creative thinking, she guides others through life's challenges, helping them overcome pain while discovering their potential and achieving their goals.

Lauren's journey began in Chattanooga, TN, where she was raised by her grandparents in a home affected by alcoholism. Her life changed dramatically when her grandfather turned from alcohol to Jesus, transforming their family. This experience deeply instilled in Lauren the belief that no one is bound to a future they do not want, and that hope exists in every situation.

Lauren's education includes two years at Tennessee Temple University with an emphasis on Speech Communication. She is currently completing her bachelor's in Christian Counseling through Andersonville Theological Seminary and working towards licensure with the National Christian Counselors Association.

For over 19 years, Lauren has been happily married to her husband Billy, who served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Together, they navigated deployments, the loss of their daughter, and the challenges of military life. These experiences, along with supporting Billy through his doctoral program and homeschooling their son, have given Lauren profound insight into marital growth, grief, and resilience during life's hardships. They now reside in McMinnville, TN, where Billy pastors a church in Manchester.

In 2011, Lauren endured the trauma of losing her daughter and was subsequently diagnosed with Celiac Disease and Hashimoto's. Her son's diagnosis of Type 1 Diabetes in 2021 further shaped her understanding of chronic illness, both as a patient and a caregiver. Through these challenges, Lauren has developed a deep compassion for those struggling with chronic diseases and their families, guiding them toward hope and growth amidst adversity.

Others have said that Lauren is:
"A great listener and a calming presence in the room. She has helped many feel loved and seen. She cares deeply." -Dr. Cathy.

"She has a tender and loving demeanor that many find easy to open up to. Her philosophy of care is deeply rooted in her faith and her caring nature extends to all who need an ear."
-BryAnna M.

"This last year has been a very tumultuous time for me, and anytime I have needed to, I have leaned on Lauren! She has been such a voice of reason and a foundation for me when I need to be grounded. She uses her life experiences to help me through mine. It is never a competition of life experiences, but rather a useful resource to help me through mine. She also uses her knowledge of the Bible and relationship with Jesus to guide me!" -Amanda M.
